Fatal four-car accident on I-75 closes highway: FHP
A tragic accident on Saturday led to the loss of a 56-year-old woman from Gainesville in a four-car collision on Interstate 75, causing the highway to be shut down for several hours. The incident, documented by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), occurred when the victim, driving a Hyundai Sonata in the southbound inside lane, switched to the center lane and collided with a Mazda 6 driven by a 30-year-old woman from New York. Subsequently, the Sonata veered into the median, striking a guardrail, rolling over, and crossing into the northbound lanes. Within the northbound lanes, the Sonata collided with a Kia Sorento operated by a 57-year-old woman from Riverview, eventually coming to rest on the guardrail. A Honda Civic driven by a 72-year-old woman from Maryland was also affected, sustaining damage from debris in the northbound center lane. Sadly, the victim was pronounced deceased at the crash site, while the Sorento driver suffered minor injuries. The other individuals involved were uninjured according to the report. The collision necessitated the closure of the northbound lanes of I-75 until 5 p.m.
