Fatal firework mishap in Kossuth County
A tragic incident occurred in Whittemore, Iowa, where a man lost his life in a fireworks accident in Kossuth County on Tuesday. Emergency services were called to the corner of 5th Street and Kossuth Avenue after a 911 report came in just before 9:15 p.m. A male individual was found unconscious with injuries from a fireworks mishap. Despite prompt response from Whittemore and Kossuth County EMS and the Sheriff's Office, including the Air Med 3 Helicopter from Mercy Hospital, the victim, 33-year-old Patrick Prentice, was pronounced dead at Kossuth Regional Health Center. The authorities determined that the accident occurred when Prentice was lighting fireworks while holding a launcher tube. The investigation is ongoing with support from the Kossuth County Medical Examiner's Office.
