Fatal DUI crash on 60 Freeway in Pomona hurts infant
Two women lost their lives and a 1-year-old child was taken to the hospital following a tragic incident where a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on the 60 Freeway collided with two other vehicles. The California Highway Patrol reported that a motorist suspected of driving under the influence caused the crash near the 71 Freeway around 11 p.m. on Saturday. The driver, Rick Rodriguez, 24, was arrested and hospitalized with serious injuries. The collision involved a 2013 Honda Accord traveling in the wrong direction and crashing head-on with a 2018 Honda Civic before hitting a 2019 Toyota Highlander. The occupants of the Civic, two women from Huntington Park ages 29 and 39, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the 1-year-old child in that vehicle sustained major injuries and was taken to Children's Hospital of Orange County. The driver of the Highlander, Veronica Segura, 47, was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital with minor injuries. Following the crash, a portion of the westbound 60 Freeway was closed for several hours until early Sunday morning, causing traffic disruptions.
