Fatal DUI crash near Petaluma injures 2.

One person died and two others were hurt in a three-vehicle collision close to Petaluma last Sunday morning. The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident on Lakeville Highway just south of Old Lakeville Road No. 3 after being notified at around 5:55 a.m. An initial examination of the accident determined that a Ford Mustang, attempting to illegally overtake a Toyota Highlander, crossed over the double yellow lines while heading south on the highway. The Mustang collided head-on with a Honda HR-V traveling north, causing the Toyota to spin off the road after being struck on its left side. Sadly, a passenger in the Honda lost their life in the crash, whereas the driver was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The Mustang's driver, the sole occupant, also suffered significant injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, although their identity was not disclosed. Fortunately, no one in the Toyota suffered any injuries. As a result of the crash and the subsequent investigation, Lakeville Highway remained closed for over four hours.
