Fatal Dairy Incident in Weld County: Fire Chief
"Six individuals tragically lost their lives in an incident at a dairy farm in Weld County on Wednesday evening. The Southeast Weld Fire District responded to a confined space rescue at Prospect Ranch, where they recovered the bodies of the victims. The Weld County Coroner's Office confirmed that all victims were male, and their identities will be released pending notification of next-of-kin. One of the victims was a student at Highland High School, as stated by the Weld RE-9 School District which is providing support to students and staff during this difficult time. Authorities are investigating the cause of the deaths, possibly related to gas exposure in a confined space. First responders encountered challenges due to the presence of toxic gas, including hydrogen sulfide. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is leading the investigation. Dairy Farmers of America expressed condolences for the tragic accident at a member farm in Keenesburg, where the incident occurred. County records show the farm's significant size, including a dairy milking parlor and two free stall barns. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge."
