Fatal Crash Update: Police identify the person killed
The Greensboro Police Department has identified the robbery suspect who died in a crash earlier this month. According to officers, the man is 71-year-old Peter Washington of Greensboro. ORIGINAL STORY:The incident happened on May 7 around 6:45 p.m. The Greensboro Police Department said officers were responding to reports of an armed suspect at the Walgreens on East Bessemer Avenue. While on their way to the scene, they learned that the suspect had left the Walgreens in a black SUV and was driving north on Summit Avenue. Authorities saw the suspect’s SUV pull out of a parking lot and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, police said the driver did not pull over and instead sped off. Officers deactivated blue lights and decided not to pursue the car; however, they later came across the SUV, which had crashed on Phillips Avenue on the bridge over US 29. The driver was ejected during the crash and died from his injuries.
