Fatal crash turns into homicide investigation

INDIANAPOLIS - An investigation is underway after one person was killed in a shooting that led to a pickup truck crashing into a building on Indy's east side Saturday morning. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, around 12:13 a.m., officers responded to the 5000 block of East 10th Street on reports of a personal injury crash. When officers arrived on scene, they located a vehicle inside the building. IMPD confirmed the driver died in the crash. A juvenile was found injured in the passenger seat. While the Marion County Coroner’s Office investigated with the IMPD fatal crash investigations team, they determined that the driver suffered injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Homicide detectives are now investigating. The MCCO is continuing to assist with the investigation and will soon determine the exact cause of death. The name of the victim will be released following proper next-of-kin notifications.
