Fatal crash shuts down I-96 near Metro Detroit

Michigan State Police shut down I-96 in Livingston County on Monday afternoon after a serious collision involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle resulted in one fatality. The accident occurred when a red pickup truck crashed into the rear of a semi-truck's trailer, becoming stuck underneath it. The incident took place on the westbound side of I-96 near Mason Road in Howell Township. State police reported that a 39-year-old man had slowed down due to traffic congestion on the highway when a 49-year-old man from Fowlerville collided with the trailer, leading to the fatality. Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the crash. Michigan State Police indicated that the road closure will be in effect for an extended period of time.
