Fatal crash results in woman's death
A tragic accident occurred in Vermilion Township early Sunday morning when a woman lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Darrow Road. The driver, Sarah Gehringer, 34, of Wakeman, was operating a 2003 Dodge Dakota when she lost control and crashed after exiting a curve at excessive speed. The truck hit a utility pole and two trees, resulting in fatal injuries to Gehringer, who was ejected from the vehicle. The road was closed for three hours for investigation and cleanup, with power lines also needing inspection. The road reopened around 3 a.m., and authorities suspect alcohol and drugs played a role in the accident.
