Fatal crash on Route 60 being probed by VSP, woman faces charges

Virginia State Police are looking into a deadly crash involving three vehicles that took place on Route 60 in Alleghany County. The collision occurred when a 2008 Chrysler heading south changed lanes and collided with a 2018 Honda Goldwing motorcycle and a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer waiting at a traffic light at the intersection of Route 1104. 58-year-old Elizabeth A. Huston from Covington, Va., who was wearing her seatbelt, was hurt and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Charges of Reckless Driving have been filed against Huston, as confirmed by VSP. Sadly, 69-year-old William Painter Simmons from Fincastle, Va., the Honda motorcycle driver, passed away later at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed during the crash. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated.
