Fatal crash on Nowata Road investigated by Oklahoma State Troopers
Nowata man Michael Ray Melton, Sr, 75, tragically passed away on July 2 after sustaining critical injuries in a crash on June 4. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m., about two-thirds of a mile south of Nowata. Following the crash, Melton was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he later succumbed to his injuries. Derick Schondel, 40, of Talala, and Sherry Melton, 78, of Nowata, also involved in the accident, were treated and released from Jane Phillips Hospital in Nowata and St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, respectively. Schondel was driving a 2013 Ford F150, while Melton was operating a 2015 Infiniti QX60 with Michael Melton as a passenger.
