Fatal crash on Interstate 90 near Drummond
Tragically, a serious accident on Interstate 90 claimed the lives of three individuals earlier this week. The incident occurred last Tuesday when a Hyundai Elantra veered out of control while heading west on I-90 near Drummond in Powell County. The car spun across the median into the path of an oncoming Volvo tractor-trailer traveling east. The collision caused the Elantra to break into three pieces, with one section catching fire, another landing further ahead, and a third becoming trapped beneath the semi-trailer. All three occupants of the Elantra, including a 40-year-old woman from Missoula who was driving, a 31-year-old man from Marion, and a 9-year-old boy, tragically lost their lives at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 34-year-old man from Ogden, UT, thankfully escaped without injury. The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the role of speed in the accident, taking into account the wet and icy road conditions at the time.
