Fatal crash on I-96 caused by driver speeding over 100 mph

A fatal collision occurred on the westbound lanes of I-96 at the border of Oakland and Livingston Counties, causing the highway to be temporarily closed on Wednesday morning. The accident involved two cars and a piece of construction equipment, with one vehicle overturned. According to Michigan State Police, a 19-year-old driver from Detroit was speeding over 100 mph in a Chevy Malibu, which caused the crash. The Malibu veered into the middle lane, collided with another vehicle, and both vehicles spun out of control, hitting a third vehicle. The Malibu flipped over and struck a construction trailer, resulting in the driver's fatality. Another driver sustained minor injuries. Authorities have not provided an estimate of how long the highway will remain closed.
