Fatal Crash on I-75 Involving MDOT Vehicles

Authorities are currently attending to a serious accident on I-75 in Monroe County, where a semi-truck collided with multiple vehicles from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. near I-275 in Frenchtown Township. Upon arrival, Michigan State Police found a jackknifed semi-truck and two damaged MDOT vehicles in the northbound lanes. Preliminary investigations indicate that the semi-truck struck one MDOT vehicle and then another in the left lane. Tragically, the semi-truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while several MDOT workers sustained minor injuries. The collision involved two attenuator vehicles, which are designed to provide impact protection. The crash also resulted in spilled aluminum cans from the semi-truck onto the highway. Authorities are currently unable to confirm details about the deceased driver and are unclear whether safety precautions, such as seat belts, were utilized. The timeline for reopening the highway remains uncertain as investigations continue.
