Fatal crash on I-57 causes closure in County Club Hills
The southbound lanes of Interstate 57 have been shut down following a tragic incident where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning in the south suburbs. The collision occurred around 4 a.m. near Vollmer Road in Country Club Hills. Initial reports from Illinois State Police suggest that a crash took place, leading to an individual exiting their vehicle and being hit by another passing vehicle. Unfortunately, one person lost their life, and the victim's identity has not been disclosed. Another individual was transferred to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. The closure impacts the I-57 southbound lanes at I-80, with the I-80 ramp to I-57 southbound also blocked off. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
