Fatal crash on I-45: 1 dead, 3 hurt in head-on collision sparking car blaze

A tragic incident occurred in the Conroe area late Sunday night when a head-on collision led to a fatal car fire. The Woodlands Fire Department reported that the Conroe Fire Department responded to a major accident on I-45 North near the San Jacinto River and north of 1488 around 8 p.m. This collision involved a car breaking down on the shoulder and being struck by a blue Toyota Camry. Both vehicles caught fire, but firefighters from the Woodlands Fire Department Rescue 101 were able to swiftly extinguish the flames upon their arrival. Tragically, a child in the vehicle did not survive the incident, while the mother and another child sustained third-degree burns and were hospitalized. The driver of the Camry was reported to be in stable condition. The Conroe Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and DPS are currently investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unknown at this time.
