Fatal crash on I-44 kills one person, MSHP investigating - KOLR

UPDATE 6:00 PM - Traffic is no longer backed up on I-44 near mile marker 60 and all lanes have been reopened. Original Story (2:49 p.m.): LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident west of Springfield on westbound I-44 that happened just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. According to Sgt. Mike McClure with MSHP, a tractor-trailer crashed in the median of I-44 around mile marker 60 near Halltown, killing one person. It is unknown at this time if the deceased person was the driver. One lane in both westbound and eastbound I-44 is closed, with one lane remaining open and traffic moving slowly, according to McClure. OzarksTraffic estimates that traffic is backed up for around three miles in each direction as of 3:30 p.m. This story will be updated when Ozarks First receives more information.
