Fatal crash on Hwy 287 in Larimer County involving reported drunk driver

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident on Highway 287 in Larimer County on Friday evening when a suspected drunk driver veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle. The collision occurred near Red Mountain Road around 6:18 p.m. A concerned citizen had alerted 911 about the erratic driving of a northbound Honda Accord just moments before the crash. The Honda crossed into the southbound lane, causing a 1987 Chevrolet Suburban to swerve and ultimately be struck head-on by the Honda, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol (CSP). Both vehicles ignited, trapping the drivers inside, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The Larimer County Coroner's Office will disclose their identities pending notification of their families. The CSP's Vehicular Crimes Unit is conducting an investigation, and Highway 287 remains closed in both directions at Red Mountain Highway. Updates on the road's reopening can be found on COtrip.org. This story is ongoing and will be updated accordingly.
