Fatal crash on Highway 92 offramp injures children.

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in San Mateo resulting in the death of a 30-year-old woman and severe injuries to her two young children following a crash on an off-ramp from Highway 92. The collision involved a Ford SUV and a Toyota Prius at the Alameda de las Pulgas exit around 6:17 p.m. Authorities from the San Mateo Police Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene where the woman driving the Prius was pronounced dead while her children, aged 5 and 7, were hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of the Ford, the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries. Initial findings by police suggest that the Ford failed to yield at a red light while exiting the off-ramp, striking the Prius that was proceeding north on a green light. The Ford driver, who was not impaired, did not comply with the traffic signal for unknown reasons. Both Alameda de las Pulgas and the eastbound Highway 92 ramps were shut down in both directions for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation into the incident.
