Fatal crash on Highway 24 in Topeka
Emergency responders were present at the scene of a fatal accident on Highway 24 in north Topeka on Friday afternoon. Tragically, one individual has been confirmed deceased and another is in serious condition. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), the incident took place around 2 p.m. on Friday, May 30 in the westbound lanes of Highway 24 near the Northwest Rochester Road intersection. A Hyundai Santa Fe traveling east veered off the road to the right and then corrected sharply to the left, crossing the median and colliding head-on with a Kia Forte in the westbound lanes. The driver of the Hyundai, 22-year-old Anya J. Turner from Topeka, lost her life in the crash, while the 32-year-old female driver of the Kia sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
