
Fatal crash on Dan Ryan Expressway after stalled car hit by semi, per Illinois State Police
A tragic incident occurred on the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago late Friday night, resulting in the death of a driver whose stalled car was rear-ended by a semi-truck. According to Illinois State Police, the crash took place near 59th Street around 11:30 p.m. In an initial report, it was revealed that a Nissan sedan had come to a stop in the second left lane when a semi-truck collided with its rear as it failed to stop in time. Eyewitnesses, who spoke to WGN News, recounted the efforts of firefighters to rescue a woman and a young child from the vehicle. Lisa Queen, who was present at a nearby gas station, described witnessing the woman being extricated from the wreckage and receiving CPR, as well as seeing a baby being rescued. Tragically, the driver of the sedan succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital, and a passenger was also hospitalized with injuries. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed by authorities. Following the incident, all northbound lanes of I-94 were shut down for approximately five hours, with traffic diverted off the expressway at 63rd Street. The lanes were eventually reopened by 4:15 a.m. Saturday, as confirmed by ISP.
