Fatal crash on A1A in Ormond Beach on Saturday evening
An investigation is underway by the Florida Highway Patrol into a deadly accident that took place on State Road A1A in Ormond Beach on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. south of Sandpiper Ridge Drive when a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette and a 2016 Jeep Wrangler were both traveling northbound. The Corvette attempted to overtake the Jeep in a no-passing zone resulting in a collision. The occupants of the Jeep, a 72-year-old man from Ohio who was driving and a 73-year-old woman from Ormond Beach who was a passenger, were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Tragically, the Jeep's driver was fatally injured, while the passenger was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition. Neither had been wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Corvette suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same medical center for treatment. The exact circumstances of the crash are still being investigated.
