Fatal crash on 60 Freeway: Loose truck tire smashes through car windshield
A tragic incident occurred on the 60 Freeway in Pomona early Monday morning where a driver lost their life in an unusual accident. California Highway Patrol reported that the driver of a white Lexus sedan was fatally struck when a tire detached from a truck and crashed through their car's windshield on the eastbound lanes of the freeway near the Gary Avenue off-ramp around 2:30 a.m. Images from the scene depicted the extensive damage to the Lexus's windshield and roof. Initial investigations suggest that the truck was traveling westbound and lost its tire, sending it across the eastbound lanes, resulting in the collision with the victim's vehicle. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was declared deceased at the site by emergency responders. Following the incident, all eastbound lanes were shut down by 2:40 a.m., prompting a SigAlert at 3:15 a.m. Most lanes reopened by 4 a.m., with only the slow lane remaining closed.
