Fatal crash near Terrell on I-20 claims sixth victim as 18-wheeler driver reportedly nods off

Tragically, a sixth victim has lost their life in the recent I-20 crash near Terrell, which officials attribute to an 18-wheeler driver allegedly falling asleep at the wheel. Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, 27, was driving the 18-wheeler and collided with a Ford F-150 carrying five individuals when he failed to notice the stopped traffic on Saturday around 2:40 p.m. The collision resulted in four fatalities at the scene and one critically injured person airlifted to the hospital. The secondary impact involving Gonzalez-Companioni's vehicle and two other trucks caused further casualties, including one individual in a Jeep Compass losing their life. Gonzalez-Companioni, who is currently in custody at Kaufman County Jail, faces several charges, including manslaughter. The crash, described by emergency responders as "horrific," prompted a mass casualty response and left witnesses at a nearby RV park deeply disturbed. Texas DPS has approached Gonzalez-Companioni's employer, Hope Trans LLC, for comments on the incident.
