Fatal crash near Rate Field claims lives of 2 women
A tragic incident occurred near Rate Field resulting in the loss of two women on Sunday night. According to Chicago police, a 24-year-old female driver driving east on West 35th Street lost control of her vehicle, crossed the median, and collided with oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a black sport-utility vehicle. The two women in the red sedan were treated at the scene and then taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where they were pronounced deceased. The 21-year-old woman was identified as Natalia Andrea Acevedo Mendez, while the 24-year-old driver remained unidentified as of Monday morning. The occupants of the SUV were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Video footage from the area displayed the aftermath of the crash with the red sedan overturned and debris scattered near the White Sox baseball stadium, while the black SUV sustained significant damage.
