Fatal crash involving VDOT vehicle on Route 460 in Sussex County
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) vehicle on Route 460 Wednesday afternoon. According to officials, at approximately 1:33 p.m., a commercial vehicle struck a VDOT crash truck in the right lane of Route 460 near the George Town Road intersection. The commercial vehicle caught fire following the collision, as seen in the below pictures sent in to 10 On Your Side. Two VDOT employees were injured in the crash, with one succumbing to their injuries at an area hospital. The condition of the other worker is unknown at this time. Virginia State Police have not confirmed if the driver of the commercial vehicle was injured, or if they are facing charges. Traffic in both directions near George Town Road continues to be impacted, with both east and west lanes alternating closures. 10 On Your Side will continue to investigate, and will provide any additional information once it becomes available.
