Fatal crash involving tractor-trailer in West Virginia leaves 1 man dead

(WOWK) — One fatality was confirmed after a tractor-trailer and car crashed on I-64 near South Charleston Tuesday evening. South Charleston FD Fire Chief Virgil White confirmed the fatal crash, which took place by exit 54 on I-64 West near South Charleston around 5:25 p.m. South Charleston Police said the fatality was the driver of the tractor-trailer. Fire crews worked to put out a fire that broke out on the tractor-trailer. Images show that both the truck and car were dangling off the edge of the bridge. According to the South Charleston Police Department, the driver of the truck has been identified as Jeffrey Simons, 63, from Iowa. The truck driver's dog was rescued from the crash. Traffic is down to just one westbound lane, with vehicles being rerouted to MacCorkle Avenue. South Charleston Police are investigating.
