Fatal crash involving moped rider

In Vermilion, a tragic incident occurred as a 20-year-old man lost his life in a crash on Liberty Avenue near Subway. Reports indicate that a car turning into a driveway collided with a moped traveling in the opposite direction, resulting in fatal injuries to the moped rider. The Vermilion Police Department responded to the scene promptly after the incident was reported around 6:20 p.m., finding the moped operator, Merik Bendig, unresponsive yet still breathing. Emergency services provided initial care before transporting him via helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old from Lorain, was unharmed. Investigations by the Ohio State Highway Patrol revealed that the driver failed to yield while making a left turn into a driveway, leading to the collision on Liberty Avenue. Family members have been informed of Bendig's passing, and his friends and relatives have been sharing their condolences on social media. Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation into the tragic incident.
