Fatal crash involving Highway Patrol vehicle.

In Athens, Ohio, a tragic incident involving a State Patrol car led to the loss of two lives on Thursday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a trooper observed a traffic violation on U.S Route 50 around 2 p.m. and attempted to pursue the vehicle. Unfortunately, during this pursuit, the cruiser collided with a car crossing lanes, resulting in the deaths of John G. Horton, 82, and Le-Ann Horton, 72. The Hortons were in a Toyota Prius traveling westbound when they tried to cross onto Fisher Road and were struck by the patrol car. The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital. Several agencies, including the Ohio Department of Transportation and various emergency services, responded to the scene. The crash is currently being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
