Fatal crash involving car and semi truck in Buffalo County
A fatal crash occurred on Thursday night in Buffalo County, 14 miles east of Fort Thompson. According to information released by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a man lost his life in the accident. The incident involved a 2015 Peterbilt hauling hay bales on South Dakota Highway 34 when a strap broke, causing bales to fall off the trailer. The driver attempted to clear the road by turning the semi around at a gravel road intersection, leading to the trailer becoming stuck in a ditch. Tragically, a 43-year-old man driving a 2022 Toyota Prius collided with the trailer, resulting in fatal injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt was unharmed. The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of family members.
