Fatal crash involving 32-year-old motorcyclist on I-64 Eastbound in Hampton
A motorcyclist from Midlothian tragically lost his life in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 64 Eastbound in Hampton. The incident occurred on June 22 at 2:04 p.m. when a Virginia State Police investigation revealed that two vehicles, a 2022 Nissan Murano and a 2024 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, were stopped in the left lane due to traffic. Despite both vehicles being stationary, a 2000 Ford Excursion operated by Dionicio Moreno of Hampton failed to stop, rear-ending the motorcycle and causing the rider, Christopher Matthew Dawson, to be ejected and run over. Dawson, aged 32, was rushed to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, where he succumbed to his severe injuries. The driver of the Ford Excursion, Moreno, was charged with reckless driving, although speed and alcohol were not deemed to be factors in the crash, according to authorities. All subsequent charges will be considered by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office.
