Fatal crash investigated by Hendricks Co. during storm on Wednesday

Authorities in Danville, Indiana are currently looking into a tragic incident following a fatal crash that occurred during a storm impacting Central Indiana on Wednesday evening. The Hendricks County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that they responded to a crash on CR 75 W, just north of CR 200 S, at approximately 9:30 p.m. that same evening. Upon arrival, deputies discovered downed power lines obstructing the road, as well as a vehicle, identified as a 2007 blue Dodge pickup truck, on fire near the east side of the roadway. The individual found unresponsive at the scene has been identified as 27-year-old Nathan Merritt, a resident of Danville. Due to the danger posed by the live power lines, rescue efforts were initially impeded until the power company deactivated them, allowing rescue personnel to reach Merritt, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that Merritt's vehicle collided with the downed power lines while traveling northbound on CR 75 W, and he exited the vehicle before making contact with the power line. The incident remains under investigation by officials from the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office.
