Fatal crash into building follows Brooklyn car theft: sources

A man, aged 41, tragically lost his life after stealing a car and crashing it into a building in Flatlands, Brooklyn early on Monday morning, as reported by PIX11 News sources. The stolen Honda Civic, which had TLC plates, was taken from Regent and Flatbush avenues at approximately 1:45 a.m. The driver had left the vehicle running momentarily while running an errand. The man drove the car down Flatbush Avenue for about a mile and a half before crashing into a building. He was ejected from the car and flung several feet away from it by the impact. The crash caused part of the car to land near a gas station, while the rest of it came to a stop on an island between Flatbush Avenue and Avenue J. Videos from the gas station's surveillance cameras captured sparks flying from the car as it crashed due to speeding. Police officers discovered the man on the road and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead. His identity is being kept confidential until his family is informed. Sources mentioned that the Department of Buildings confirmed the stability of the building that was struck in the crash.
