
Fatal crash in Victorville claims life of San Bernardino County deputy
A tragic traffic collision resulting from a pursuit in Victorville took the life of San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy Hector Cuevas Jr. The incident occurred when Deputy Cuevas was involved in a collision with another vehicle while chasing a stolen vehicle through an intersection at Seneca and El Evado roads. San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus expressed his grief during a press conference, emphasizing Cuevas' exemplary qualities as a law enforcement officer and family man. Cuevas, a six-year veteran of law enforcement based in Victorville for three years, leaves behind a wife, two children, parents, and siblings. The suspect, Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., was arrested for charges including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and evading a peace officer causing death or serious injury. Details of the collision are still under investigation. Marcelline Demyan, the driver of the second vehicle involved, shared her experience of the crash and expressed her condolences for Cuevas' family. A procession of first responders escorted Cuevas' body to the San Bernardino County Coroner, with Sheriff Dicus commending Cuevas' dedication and sacrifice. Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement mourning Cuevas' loss and ordered flags at the state capitol to be flown at half-staff in his honor.
