
Fatal crash in Sandusky County injures child: OSHP
State troopers from Ohio are currently looking into a tragic incident that occurred in Washington Township. A man from Fremont lost his life, and a 10-year-old boy was seriously injured in a crash in Sandusky County on Wednesday afternoon. The accident took place at 4:36 p.m. on US-20, just west of State Route 51. The vehicle involved, a 2013 Nissan Versa, was traveling eastbound on the highway when it crossed the center median and veered off the north side of the road, striking a mailbox and a barn before coming to a stop. The driver, Ernesto Chavez, age 44, was declared deceased at the scene. The young passenger in the backseat sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mercy Health Saint Vincent Medical Center, where he is currently in stable condition. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and no other vehicles were involved. The investigation into this tragic crash is ongoing.
