Fatal crash in Sabine Parish claims life of 66-year-old woman

SABINE PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — On February 28, 2026, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a crash at the intersection of Louisiana Highways 120 and 175, which claimed the life of 66‑year‑old Kathy Birdwell of Natchitoches. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the scene at approximately 5:27 p.m. When police arrived, their preliminary investigation found that a 2000 Chevrolet van was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 120 when, for unknown reasons at the time, the driver failed to stop at the intersection. The van left the roadway and struck a ditch embankment.  The restrained driver and two passengers sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local medical facility for treatment.  Birdwell, who was also properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology samples have been collected and submitted for analysis.  Louisiana State Police says the crash remains under investigation and emphasizes the importance of attentive driving.
