Fatal crash in Northern Colorado believed to involve drunk driving, wrong-way driving.

Two individuals lost their lives in a collision in Larimer County when a suspected drunk driver veered into opposing traffic on Highway 287 on Friday night. The cars caught fire upon impact, resulting in the fatalities of both drivers, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol. The incident occurred near Red Mountain Road at approximately 6:15 p.m., shortly after a concerned driver dialed 911 to report the erratic behavior of the suspected drunk driver. The driver of a 2018 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Highway 287 when it crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a 1987 Chevrolet Suburban near milepost 372. Despite the efforts of the Suburban driver to avoid the crash by hitting a guardrail, both vehicles burst into flames, trapping the occupants. The deceased drivers will be formally identified by the Larimer County Coroner's Office once their families have been notified. The Colorado State Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the accident. This tragedy adds to a series of recent incidents involving wrong-way drivers in Colorado that law enforcement has been cautioning the public about, including a well-known case on U.S. Route 285 in Morrison that claimed the lives of a couple who ran a beloved food truck in Conifer.
