Fatal crash in northeast neighborhood under investigation
A brief pursuit by law enforcement in Fort Wayne concluded tragically when the driver of a pickup truck crashed into a residence in the northeast part of the city. The incident began when an officer noticed the speeding pickup around 10:15 p.m. near Northcrest Shopping Center on N. Clinton St. The driver of the pickup attempted to evade the officer, turning onto eastbound St. Joe Center Rd. and then into the Papermill Bluffs neighborhood. After the officer caught up and activated emergency lights and siren on Papermill Crossing, the driver continued at a high speed before crashing into a house on Roaring Fork Run. Despite efforts from the officer, the driver was pinned and pronounced dead by arriving medics. Thankfully, no residents inside the house were harmed, and there were no other occupants in the pickup. The Fort Wayne Fire Department assisted in extracting the driver from the vehicle, with further investigation to be conducted by the Fort Wayne Police Department's FACT Team and Allen County Coroner’s Office. Details on the driver's identity and the cause of death will be released by the coroner's office at a later time.
