Fatal crash in Monroe County caused by turning vehicle

Two passengers died in a crash along Route 115 in Monroe County as the driver attempted to turn into his home driveway, police said. Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner said the accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township. Samuel Frantz, 57, who resides in the 3700 block of Route 115, was attempting to make a left turn into his driveway from the highway’s southbound lane, police said. Stephen Zazulak, 25, of Albrightsville, Carbon County was heading north on Route 115 and struck Frantz’s vehicle as it turned, police said. Police said fog may have contributed to the crash, as visibility was low. Two passengers in Frantz’s vehicle, Cherylynn Frantz, 55, of Tunkhannock Township, and Joann Keifer, 75, of Blakeslee, Monroe County, were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment, police said. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office later pronounced both Cherylynn Frantz and Keifer dead at the hospital. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of their deaths. Saturday’s accident remains under investigation by the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. The crash is being reconstructed by Pocono Mountain Regional Police’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
