Fatal crash in McHenry County claims life of 11-year-old, authorities report
A tragic incident occurred on Monday in McHenry County where an 11-year-old child lost their life and a 29-year-old man sustained injuries following a collision. The accident involved a 2016 Ford Transit van driven by an 18-year-old individual from Huntley who failed to stop at a stop sign on Deerpass Road, leading to a collision with a 2012 Audi Q5. The Audi was being driven by a 29-year-old man from Wonder Lake, with the 11-year-old as a passenger. The driver of the Ford was treated for minor injuries at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock while the Audi driver was taken to Northwestern Huntley Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the 11-year-old passenger of the Audi succumbed to their injuries at Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford. Investigations are ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, with no indication that alcohol played a role in the crash. The authorities have not released the identity of the deceased child.
