Fatal crash in Marengo, IL leaves woman dead and man injured
A tragic incident unfolded on Monday night in Marengo, Illinois resulting in the loss of a woman's life and a man being hospitalized. Emergency responders were called to the 22800 block of River Road just before 9 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a car that had caught fire with the woman trapped inside. The situation escalated further when the car ignited a nearby home, necessitating additional fire resources from Woodstock and Union. Despite initial attempts by officers with a fire extinguisher, the flames continued to spread until firefighters arrived and were able to extinguish both fires rapidly. The man from the vehicle managed to escape before help arrived and was taken to the hospital for treatment of moderate, non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the woman inside the car did not survive. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
