Fatal crash in Jefferson leads to one death and one arrest
A tragic incident occurred in Jefferson, Louisiana on Friday, June 27, resulting in the death of a passenger and the arrest of the driver involved in a single-vehicle crash. The Louisiana State Police reported that Teodoro Leiva Gomez, a 37-year-old resident of Jefferson, was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima on Jefferson Highway near Labarre Road when the accident occurred around 1 p.m. Gomez veered off the road into the median and collided with an electrical pole for reasons still under investigation. Unfortunately, the front seat passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and tragically passed away at the scene. Gomez, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities suspected that Gomez was impaired, leading to his arrest. Following his hospital discharge, he was officially charged and taken into custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on accusations of vehicular homicide, DWI (second offense), and other traffic violations.
