Fatal crash in Burnet County results in 5 deaths
According to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a tragic multi-vehicle accident in Burnet County resulted in the loss of five lives on Friday evening. The collision took place on U.S. 281 close to Park Road 4 when a pickup truck, pulling a livestock trailer, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle head-on. The pickup then collided with an SUV following behind, causing it to overturn and catch fire, claiming the lives of all five occupants. The victims have been identified as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco. The other individuals involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with debris from the vehicles scattered at the crash site where a memorial honoring the victims has been placed. Despite the tragic outcome, local authorities noted that the location of the accident on U.S. 281 near Park Road 4 does not have a significantly higher rate of crashes compared to other roads. Data from TxDOT showed 23 crashes near the area and nine at the intersection since 2020.
