Fatal Crash Shuts Down Eastbound State Route 152 Los Banos, CA (May 22, 2025) -- A fatal crash early Thursday morning closed a portion of eastbound State Route 152 just east of Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred around 4:49 a.m. on May 22nd, with initial reports indicating a vehicle overturned on its side near the northbound I-5 interchange. Emergency responders quickly arrived at 5:32 a.m., and CHP confirmed the incident as a fatality. The coroner was called shortly after. CHP officers and Caltrans crews shut down multiple lanes to manage the scene and assess damage. A nearby guardrail on northbound I-5 sustained significant impact, and a light pole was damaged, leaving the area without lighting. Five wooden posts were also broken. Towing services were dispatched, and evidence was collected as part of the investigation. As of 7:44 a.m., the CHP had not released the identity of the victim.
