
Fatal crash closes I-90, leaves 2 injured
The City of Mentor Police Department provided an update following a serious crash that caused a closure on I-90 East for several hours on Wednesday. Sadly, the collision resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others. The incident involved multiple vehicles and took place near I-90 East at SR-306 in Mentor around 3:30 p.m. According to the police report, a chain reaction occurred when a Jeep struck a Toyota RAV4, leading to further collisions involving additional vehicles. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 85-year-old James Kephart of Geneva, was rescued by witnesses but later passed away from his injuries at MetroHealth Medical Center. The occupants of the RAV4 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The road closure lasted until approximately 6 p.m., as emergency responders worked to clear the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
