Fatal crash between school bus and car in Benton County led to death of Vinton woman

A tragic accident occurred in Benton County, Iowa, where a Vinton woman lost her life in a three-vehicle collision involving a school bus. The incident took place on Highway 218 near 61st Street around 1:45 p.m. A school bus rear-ended a Jeep that had stopped to turn, pushing it into an intersection where it was struck by an SUV. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 37-year-old Crystal Offerman, suffered fatal injuries and was transported to the University of Iowa hospital. Sadly, Offerman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Fortunately, the school bus carrying the driver and six children, operated by Vinton Shellsburg School District, had no reported injuries. Additionally, the driver of the SUV was unharmed in the accident.
