Fatal crash at French motor rally
Three spectators tragically lost their lives in central France on Saturday after a 22-year-old female driver lost control of her car during an auto rally, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and hit the spectators. The driver and her 51-year-old female co-driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. Two men died at the scene, while a third man airlifted to the hospital later passed away. The victims were two brothers aged 70 and 60, and a 44-year-old man, as confirmed by the local prosecutor’s office launching an investigation. Witnesses near the town of Ambert were deeply affected by the incident, with a dozen individuals receiving psychological support in the aftermath. The racing event was stopped, spectators were evacuated, and the award ceremony was called off. Emergency services responded, and authorities stated that the investigation is at an early stage, with the car involved undergoing examination. The road where the accident occurred has been closed, and prosecutors are reviewing whether spectators were in permitted areas during the rally. The tragic incident occurred during the 32nd edition of the rally, which has been held since 1965 and had previously experienced a fatality last year.
