Authorities in Costa Mesa are currently looking into a crash that occurred close to John Wayne Airport in the early hours of Thursday morning, resulting in the tragic death of a 45-year-old driver who was thrown from his vehicle during the accident. The collision occurred before 6:30 a.m. near the Red Hill and McCormick avenues intersection, prompting a response from both police and fire departments following reports of a crash between two sedans. One of the drivers involved, identified as Rene Sanchez, 45, from Los Angeles, tragically lost his life at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle. The other driver involved in the collision remained on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Initial findings from the investigation revealed that the unnamed driver was traveling northbound on Red Hill Avenue when Sanchez attempted a left turn from McCormick Avenue, resulting in the collision. Emergency services closed off the Red Hill and McCormick intersection for about three hours and a part of northbound Paularino Avenue to facilitate access to the crash site. Additionally, the Orange County coroner's office was contacted, and family members were later informed of the tragic incident.
