Fatal collision on Interstate 5 in Sacramento involving big rig and truck

A driver tragically lost their life in Sacramento early Saturday morning when their pick-up truck was struck by a big rig on Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol. The pick-up truck had lost a tire and become disabled in the northbound #3 lane of Interstate 5 near Sutterville Road. The big rig, which was towing two trailers, was unable to avoid the disabled vehicle and collided with it, causing both vehicles to catch fire. Sadly, the driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. The CHP confirmed that drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be involved in the incident. Initially, it was reported that the big rig driver was unharmed and the pick-up truck was parked on the side of the road, but an updated statement clarified that the crash occurred in the #3 lane and the big rig driver did sustain minor injuries. The identity of the pick-up truck driver has not yet been disclosed.
