Fatal collision on Highway 101 involving pickup truck and semi-truck: CHP Monterey
The California Highway Patrol Monterey Area office is currently investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Friday afternoon involving a collision between a pickup truck and a Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer. The incident was reported at 3:07 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 at Hartnell Road. According to CHP, initial findings suggest that the red Toyota pickup, operated by a 47-year-old Salinas resident, was traveling northbound on US-101 towards Hartnell Road. Simultaneously, the Freightliner semi-truck, piloted by a 62-year-old Yuba City resident, was heading southbound on US-101 and preparing to turn left onto Hartnell Road. The semi-truck reportedly veered across the northbound lanes of Highway 101, causing the front of the pickup to collide with the right side of the trailer. Sadly, the driver of the pickup sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi-truck driver was unharmed. The deceased individual's identity will be disclosed by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office following notification of their next of kin.
